The maximum height or “ridge height” is the distance between the existing loft floor or joists and the highest point of your loft. We need to know this because we can only safely work within lofts with a ridge height of 1.2m or more.

We are sorry to say we won’t be able to work safely within your loft space.

For healthy and safety reasons, our teams are not able to work within a loft space with a height of less than 1.2m.

You can still use our package builder to get an estimate of the cost of work but you won’t be able to proceed with a quote request.

Need some help measuring it?

If you are able to safely get access to your loft you should be able to measure the distance with a tape measure. Or you could use a long stick that you have already measured to give you an idea. Alternatively you could take a photo of your loft and send that to us.

Old properties have a high likelihood of uneven joists which makes our installation work harder. For this reason we add on a £100 surcharge to these jobs.

Firstly, it’s important to point out that we only take on jobs where there’s a need for a new storage platform. But knowing how much you need can be tricky. Here are some things that might help:

Start by making a simple inventory of the items you’re likely to want to store.
Note down the dimensions of your items – so if you’ve got storage boxes, make a note of their width, depth and if you’re considering stacking them then the height might also be useful.
Now, consider that a medium sized plastic storage container like the type you might find in Ikea is approx. 57cm wide with a depth of 39cm. And also consider that you need to leave some space to move around in the loft. With a storage platform of 15m2 you could comfortably store 50 boxes in a single layer or double if you’re stacking them.

This ladder might call for a hatch tweak or two. We’ll figure it all out when we pop round for the survey.

Your chosen type of ladder comes with a new extended loft hatch opening and in-built hatch.

If you answer yes, we’ll assume you have 100mm insulation and only need a top-up (which we’ve found is usually the case). We’ll insulate the entire loft floor, regardless of storage platform size.

Don’t worry, we can help. If you’re able to gain access to your loft and have a ruler or tape measure handy – you should be able to do a rough measurement of the existing insulation thickness.

If you find that it’s only about 10cm thick then it’s worth considering adding another layer so that you can gain all the benefits and cost savings of having a fully insulated loft!

How we estimate insulation…

This is a tough one to estimate without a physical survey so we’ve added a rough cost for a top up of 100mm thickness insulation based on the type of property you chose.

If you need to have your existing insulation replaced the cost will increase and this can only be calculated during a survey.

Have you got enough light?

If you’ve got a small loft space (around 15m²) then 1 LED light will probably suffice but any larger and we’d recommend either 2 LED lights or a strip light as this will help you get the most out of your space.

Would you like some Web Shelving?*

Web shelving, which is only available on newer properties, is a long, sturdy, shelf that we attach between the webs of the trussed rafters which acts as another storage platform. And being higher up it makes storing and retrieving items a lot easier!
